Acting President signs condolences book for the death of Hashemi Rafsanjani

Acting President of the Republic Dimitris Syllouris signed here today the book of condolences, which opened at the Embassy of Iran for the death of former president of the country Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Syllouris expressed on behalf of the people and the government of Cyprus deepest condolences to the leadership and the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The passing away of Ayatollah Rafsanjani is a great loss for Iran and its people, especially in today's turbulent times for our region and the world at large” Syllouris wrote, adding that in the course of his recent official visit to Iran, he had the honour and privilege to witness his gifted personality and deep knowledge and wisdom and that he was impressed, among others, by his thorough knowledge of the history of Cyprus and the Cyprus problem.

Syllouris also wrote that Ayatollah Rafsanjani left his mark on the recent Iranian history and political affairs as a leading personality of an international calibre, who was one of the driving forces in Iran's progress and prosperity and that he will always be remembered and respected by his people and the wider world for his devotion to his country and his wise leadership.
